This richly illustrated History of 7th to 19th century Islamic Architecture locates and describes some 170 Islamic buildings from Morocco, the Alhambra in Spain, the monumental architecture of Timurid Samarkand, Safavid Persia, Sinan's mosques in Ottoman Istanbul to India and China.
The emphasis is on the architecture of these buildings - mosques, medresas, tombs - and not necessarily on their importance to Moslems. Because of the magnitude of this project the choice of the selection is my own.
My primary sources are:
1. Alfred Renz "Geschichte und Stätten des Islam von Spanien bis Indien", Prestel Verlag, Munich, 1977 (in German)
2. For images, plans, and some text I mined the archives of the Digital Library of Archnet.org
