Many thought Christopher Columbus was the first European explorer to set foot in North America, but he wasn’t. Columbus came to North America in 1492, which was 500 years after the Viking Leif Eriksson. In 1001 A.D., Eriksson journeyed to the western coast of Greenland, seeking out a land that had been described by a well traveled sailor. He hoped to spread Christianity and claim new lands. Eriksson was not the barbaric Viking stereotype. He overcame the assumptions that he was evil, as he became one of the first European explorers to set foot in North America. Follow me, and together we’ll go on Leif Eriksson’s journey to the New World!
