The ecological and cultural significance of the Indus Ecoregion has led WWF Pakistan and the Government of Sindh to take up the area as the first ecoregion initiative with the Indus for All Programme being the first implementation of the fifty-year vision of the Indus Ecoregion Programme. The Indus Ecoregion is ranked 40th out of the 238 ecoregion's identified across the globe. The Indus for All Programme covers six years of implementation with WWF Pakistan facilitating stakeholders such as provincial and local government, local communities, non-government organizations, community based organizations and civil society organizations to take steps in promoting effective natural resource management and diversifying livelihoods for the alleviation of poverty in the region. The four sites selected for the first phase of the Indus Ecoregion Programme are Chotiari Reservoir (complex of wetland and desert ecosystem) in Sanghar, Kinjhar Lake (freshwater ecosystem) and Keti Bunder (mangrove ecosystem) in Thatta, and Pai Forest (irrigated plantation) in Nawabshah.
