About this map:

This is the old route as suggested by the Ordnance Survey and followed by Margary (ed.3 p.445) but there is no guarantee that this is not a short-cut westwards to the Stanegate from a road heading down to the Tyne crossing from Chesters. The only fixed points we have from which to work are the 'M.P.XIIII' at Crindledykes (which is always assumed to be measured from Corbridge, although it is not specifically mentioned) and the measured mile between milestations XV (Vindolanda) and XVI (Smith's Shield) which, at c.1645m, is slightly longer than a standard Roman mile (although work elsewhere in the Empire has shown that a mile can be a pretty fluid measurement).
