This map includes a representative sampling of the better Scotch whisky distilleries, and some that are included in areas where there are few distilleries.Yellow - Lowland WhiskiesBlue - Speyside WhiskiesAqua - Maritime WhiskiesGreen - Islay Maritime WhiskiesRed - Northern Highland WhiskiesPink - Eastern Highland WhiskiesPurple - Southern Highland WhiskiesScores are based on a 100 point scale and are normally taken from the most common bottling - usually a 10 or 12 year old whisky, bottled at 40 or 43 percent alcohol by volume (abv). Taking as a "given" that there is no such thing as a "bad Scotch whisky," there are still some that most prefer over others. Supply and demand being what they are, it follows that these are also a bit pricier. My favorites are marked with a "dot" in the middle of the pin. That's not to say that I don't have many of the others in my cabinet.
